belonging matters conversations
Gain insights about your organization from the wisdom of a diverse group.
Sparking conversations
Belonging Matters Conversations can be held on any social issue. The conversations are structured to create the conditions for the people who are most impacted by the topic issue to contribute their voice and leadership, and in the process, have their dignity affirmed by other participants.
Belonging Matters Conversations are entirely free and are delivered anywhere in Grey Bruce. Organizations or community groups wishing to host a conversation need only provide a comfortable and suitable space for the session and be responsible for registering and confirming participants.
This format is based on the proven-to-be-successful World Café methodology.
Benefits:
- Facilitate a dialogue around what really matters to address racism and discrimination in our communities effectively.
- Participants learn to locate themselves on the spectrum: Diversity / Inclusion / Uniformity / Exclusion.
- Foster cross-cultural sensitivities as participants are invited to talk from their own experiences.
- A unique opportunity to envision practices implemented within the workplace for valuing, welcoming, and fully including diverse people.

What is a World-Café
World-Café is a popular education methodology for creating a living network of collective dialogue around questions that matter, and participants experienced in real life. The World Café is built on the assumption that people already have within them the wisdom and creativity to confront even the most difficult challenges, that the answers we need are available to us, and that we are wiser together than we are alone.

People who are pushed out to the margins of society have the best vantage point from which to identify barriers. They are the least invested in maintaining the status quo.
Format
Sessions can be considered a D&I professional development activity to report within a workplace/company. After confirming the date and time of the conversation, a detailed questionnaire will need to be answered to tailor the session to specific needs.
Belonging Matters Conversations create a safe space for having a dialogue on how workplaces are diverse and inclusive and address such questions as:
- What is your story of belonging?
- Why does belonging matter?
- Have you ever felt pushed out?
- How do you create belonging?
- How does / how can the community create belonging?
Belonging Matters Conversations serve as a vehicle for local governments to inform CSWB plans and to attest to meaningful activities that increase equity, diversity and inclusion.
